Department of Political Science

The department of Political Science started on the foundation day of the Mahavidyalaya, 11 July, 1971. The department focuses on preparation of citizenship and leadership for community and public life.  Major thrust areas of instructional activities include Indian Government & Politics, International Politics, Foreign Policies and Political thoughts. The department started its post graduate classes in 2004. Political Science as a subject is being studied by about 600 students.

                The department organizes seminars, workshops short-term orientation programmes, special lectures and activities on contemporary issues such as globalization, Panchayati Raj Party System, National Integration & International understanding, world terrorism, contemporary political strategies and global peace. The students are assigned project works and course- specific assignments. The project works are conducted on the issues like women participation in Panchayati Raj institutions, Political Participation of Dalit and Minority Communities, Human Rights, Legal Rights, Child Rights and Women Empowerment.

                The department takes active role in constituting Students’ Councils, Election of Prefects and Chief Prefect. The department also takes leading role in organizing peace raillies at times on the issues of communalism, terrorism and global peace.

                Besides, career talks are organized on professional career in Political Science including civil service preparation.  Organization of an Annual Quiz Competitions on current affairs is another special feature of departmental exposure.

                The department plans for an Annual Workshop on the grassroot administrative issues. A couple of special lectures are in the proposal to be held every year.
