Department of Urdu

The department of Urdu was set up in 1971 for the first time in Bijnor city with a focus of imparting education of a language which was spoken and understood by the majority of students studying in the college.

The college being the first all-girls college in Bijnor admitted the majority of girls from Muslim Community who otherwise was reluctant to go to the other co-educational PG College in the city.

The department is involved in developing Urdu Literature and Language Skills by reading Urdu Magazines and Mushaira & Quwali competition and conducting seminars & debates in Urdu. Recently, the department has organized a UGC National Seminar on the ‘Role of Media & Literature in Freedom Movement’.

Every year the department is honoured with many students who rank amongst the toppers in the University Merit List. This motivates other students thereby increasing the number of students in Urdu subject. The post-graduate classes started in the year 2002-03. At present around 500 students study Urdu as a curricular subject of which 140 students have been enrolled in current post-graduate Urdu classes.

The department organizes an Annual day in which many creative activities are presented. Students’ Excellencies are awarded. Shortly the Department is going organize a National Symposium.
