Department of Sanskrit

The department of Sanskrit started in 1971, the very foundation year of the Mahavidyalaya. The prime focus of the department is to make students identified with an ancient   language and literature like Sanskrit. The department not only encourages the students to be well versed in grasping the knowledge of Sanskrit Literature but also inculcates interest in them to learn and use Sanskrit terms and language at their home and social circles. The department organizes workshop, seminars, orientations and competitions for professionalizatoin and vocationalization of Sanskrit Literature. The major competitions such as chatting in Sanskrit (Sanskrit Sambhashan) debate (Tark), essay writing (Nibandh Lekhan), general knowledge (Samanya Gyan), Hand written Sanskrit Research Magazine (Hasta likhit Sanskrit Shodh Patrika), writing of  Sanskrit verses (Shlok Lekhan Pratiyogita) etc. create immense interest among the students towards learning Sanskrit as one of their subjects.

                The departmental students representing the college have won the Shield (2006-07) Inter-College Debate Competition on ‘Gandhi Darshan’. The students have won distinction and university 1st rank in Sanskrit under graduate university examination (1976, 1978). Many students have won Gold Medals for higher marks with distinction in Sanskrit from the Secretary, College Management.

                The department anticipates the management support as well as university recognition for opening of post graduate classes keeping in mind the increasing interest of the students. The department plans for Annual Workshop on different aspects of Sanskrit, Short-term Sanskrit Speaking Orientation and continuation of competition activities at times.

                The department emphasizes on value based learning, character building and assimilation of Bharatiya Sanskriti much needed for quality of human life.
