Department :: Home Science

The Department of Home Science is as old as the Mahavidyalaya. From the very inception, the students have been self-motivated towards the department and the nature of Home Science curriculum since it is related to women friendly life skills. Consequently, enrolment in Home Science witnessed a    substantial growth.

The department started post graduate classes in 2001. However, the glory came to lime light continuously during the session 2006-09, when the department took the series of university ranks in the sessions 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09 with record breaking percentage.

The department conducts seminars, group discussions, workshops, project works and assignments in regular curricular transaction. Besides, competitions, cultural activities, education tour, survey of hospitals, visits to play school etc are organized every year. The department organized a grand exhibition entitled ‘Holistic Development of Child’ on the occasion of UGC        National Seminar on Family- ‘A Stepping Stone in Holistic Development of Child organized by the Mahavidyalaya during 27-28 September, 2008.

The major areas of curricular instruction are Food and Nutrition, Diet Therapy, Home Management, Research Methodology, Consumer Economics, Textile Manufacturing and Human Development. The Department has a unique Food Lab. The students are involved in rigorous practicals. Various competitions like Rangoli making, Embroidery, Pot Painting and Salad making are organized in every session.

The major thrust areas of research and project works are Child Development, Child Labor, Women Empowerment, Health and Nutrition, Balanced Diet and Therapy, Home Management and Textile Designing. The Department is now in a position of nurturing quality and excellence which is evident from the preceding performance.
