The Department of Drawing and Paintings started with four students from the very beginning day of the Mahavidyalaya, 11 July, 1971, Rich instructional activities, effective results and organization of exhibitions and activities prompted a number of students to study drawing & painting as a subject of their interest. Gradually, this department got attention of students not only from the home district but also the neighbouring districts and remote regions of the state. The continuous endeavours got impetus with commencement of PG Classes in Drawing & Painting since the session 2001-02. Along with, the Department also started two Diploma Courses in Textile Designing and Interior Designing matching to the interest and vocational needs of the students.

                Achievements of this department came to lime light when two students secured University Merit Roll of Honour  taking 8th and 10th position during 2001-02. Since then the  Department has never looked back. The department achieved the position  1, 4, 11, 15 (2003-04), 2,  11, 20, (2004-05), 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 10, 11, 13  (2005-06), 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 11, 14 (2006-07), 3, 6, 7 (2007-08) and  continuous rank series like  1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 in the session 2008-09. Thus  the department has taken a unique position in the university.

                Besides, the students of Drawing & Painting Department have participated and won the merit in the activities and exhibitions organized by the Department, Rakashapal Institute of Management, International Art Competition, Competition organized by M.J.P. Rohilkhand  University and exhibition KALANGAN organized by Uttarakhand State. The department also extends its participation in many other universities in and outside the state.

                The department organizes Art Exhibition every year in which the department has been reaping benefits from the expertise of the invited resource persons. At present the department is strengthened with enrolment of around 565 students in its under graduate and post graduate classes including Diploma in Interior and Textile Designing. This department is developing as a Centre of Excellence.
